The trail includes a 3-kilometer long section of the old Austro-Hungarian Tereziana road, which connected the former regimental center of Gospić with the port of Karlobag via Velebit. Teresijana was built in 1786 on the instructions of Emperor Josip II, and was named after his mother, Empress Maria Theresa.
